Cape Town (South Africa) – After two alleged thieves were slain on Tuesday, the Gugulethu Clinic was forced to close temporarily.
At around 10 a.m., two individuals who were holding construction workers at gunpoint demanded cash and cellphones, according to Western Cape police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi.
“With his pistol, one of the victims allegedly fired bullets at the perpetrators, mortally wounding both,” Swartbooi added.
“Gugulethu police have opened an inquest for additional investigation into a business robbery. A gun found on the scene will be subjected to ballistic testing.”
The Member for health,Mr Zahid Badroodien said:
“The clinic’s shutdown is temporary while the SAPS conducts its investigation and facility staff receives trauma debriefing, and once again, our most vulnerable are the ones who suffer.”
Elderly inhabitants, the sick, mothers and babies in need of medication and life-saving immunizations have all been denied access to a facility, he claimed, even if it was only for a short time.
