An old woman named Mutshekwa Mavhanga was allegedly chased out of her own home in Tshulungoma village, located in Thohoyandou.
This incident occurred earlier this year. She had said that her daughter in law was accusing her of performing witchcraft.
The house that they were both staying in belongs to Mutshekwa Mavhanga, but the daughter in law had said that the old lady no longer has a right to stay there, in her own house. It has also been confirmed that the daughter in law went to the chief of the village to talk ownership of the house without the old women’s permission or seeking for her consent to do so, as this is very illegal in terms of their rules and regulations at the village.
when community members learned about this tragedy, this led to the community being angry and it led to the community deciding to throw them out of their house and burn some of the items in the house.
Members of the community decided to strike and chase the women out of the house. It was either they both stay together in the old woman’s house or they both vacate the house.
The woman was refusing to vacate away from the house. The Community members took the decision to throw stones in the house so she could vacate and at the of the day they both left peacefully as they couldn’t stay together.
